17th Field School in Mortuary Archaeology which will be held in Drawsko, Poland, in summer 2015. If you have students interested in excavating human skeletal remains, we would be grateful for letting them know about this opportunity.

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:black">The early modern skeletal cemetery at Drawsko, Poland (16<sup>th</sup> -17<sup>th</sup> centuries AD) provides a unique opportunity for students to practice<b> bioarchaeology</b>  by learning archaeological

<b>excavation techniques</b> and working with <b>human osteological material</b>. To date more than 200 burials have been excavated, and the skeletal collection includes various evidence of traumatic injury, infectious, degenerative and genetic disease, nutritional

 deficiency, as well as atypical lesions that have yet to be identified. Every archaeological season in Drawsko brings

<b>discoveries</b> of unusual burials containing <b>the dead with iron sickles</b> running across their necks.<u></u><u></u></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:black"> <u></u><u></u></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:black">At the site students are allowed to excavate and document burials by themselves

<b><u>getting hands-on experience.  </u></b>The professional supervision is provided by the international team of instructors from Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznan, Poland, State University of New York, Oneonta, USA,</span><span style="font-size:11.0pt;color:black">

</span><span style="color:black">The Memorial University of Newfoundland , Canada, University of Nevada and Slavia Foundation, Lednica, Poland. Excavated bones serve as reference material in osteology courses worth 6 academic credits (ECTS). The language of

<p>Dear Maria,</p>

<p>We are contacting you in relation to an International Archaeological Field School taking place in Western Ireland (Co. Clare) this summer. We are currently accepting applications - from anyone interested in the past, in learning about

 archaeological excavation and acquiring the basic skills involved in such an undertaking. The School has an experienced teaching staff and an excellent staff-student ratio of 1:5 – guaranteeing a high standard of instruction. On-site facilities include a purpose-built

 classroom/laboratory, locker room etc. and visitor centre with restaurant.</p>

The following student from The University of Waterloo has previously attended a field school course at Caherconnell - Kathleen McGregor. Kathleen proved herself to be a strong team player and was a wonderful reflection on your University.

 Here at Caherconnell we look forward to welcoming more students from The University of Waterloo in the future.</p>

<p>This summer we will be excavating within a high-status (possibly royal) settlement built in the 10th century AD. We will focus on the remains of a visible house, and the earlier deposits that lie sealed beneath. Previous seasons have

 been very rewarding and have taught us to expect a very rich material culture, comprising items of everyday life including iron knives and stone quernstones, objects of personal ornament such as glass and lignite bracelets, glass and amber beads, iron and

 bronze dress-pins, items of weaponry such as iron armour-piercing arrowheads and lead shot, and evidence of upper-class past-times such as gaming pieces and harp-pegs.</p>

<p>As an optional extra, academic accreditation from the National University of Ireland, Galway is available to any interested participant, allowing students to make up academic credit hours over the summer period.</p>
