<b>Generics, Implicit Communication and Political Manipulation<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Sally Haslanger has recently argued that generic utterances play a special role in transmitting racist, sexist and other oppressive ideologies. I argue against some of her specific claims and suggest that the use of generics she discusses
needs to be situated in the broader context of implicit political communication, a greatly under-explored topic in philosophy.<o:p></o:p></p>
