Having explored horror movie tropes and zombie films in particular, there has been a gradual shift in the tone and substance of her recent work. Cast and filmed entirely on location in Northern Scotland during the artist’s participation in the 2012 Glenfiddich International Artist’s Residency, <em>Valley of the Deer</em> was produced in response to the fertile natural landscape and Scotland’s resonant yet troubled history. Paired with a series of wall drawings, McDonald's dense three-channel video projection juxtaposes uncanny imagery of masked villagers filmed amidst rural landscapes. Evoking aspects of both magic realism and pagan ritual, <em>Valley of the Deer</em> conjures a rich and visually haunting experience.</span><br><a href="http://jillianmcdonald.net/" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">jillianmcdonald.net</span></a><br><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><b><br></b></font></div><div><strong><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;"><font color="#e32400">HAPPY HOLIDAYS!</font></span></strong></div><div><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><b>Please join us in the new year on Thursday, January 14 from 5:00-8:00 pm for the opening reception of new exhibitions by Elinor Whidden and Barbara Hobot.</b></font><br><br><strong><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: rgb(221, 0, 0);">ADMIT EVERYONE</span></strong><br><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">University of Waterloo Art Gallery</span><br><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">East Campus Hall 1239</span><br><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">519.888.4567 ext. 33575</span><br><a href="http://uwag.uwaterloo.ca/" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">uwag.uwaterloo.ca</span></a><br><a href="https://www.facebook.com/uwag.waterloo" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">facebook.com/uwag.waterloo</span></a><br><br><strong><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: rgb(221, 0, 0);">HOURS</span></strong><br><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Tuesday to Saturday 12:00-5:00 PM</span><br><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Or by appointment</span><br><br><strong><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: rgb(221, 0, 0);">CONTACT</span></strong><br><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Ivan Jurakic, Director / Curator</span><br><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">519.888.4567 ext. 36741</span><br><a href="mailto:ijurakic@uwaterloo.ca" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">ijurakic@uwaterloo.ca</span></a><br><br><strong><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: rgb(221, 0, 0);">DRIVING</span></strong><br><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">263 Phillip Street, Waterloo</span><br><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Located in East Campus Hall (ECH) on Phillip Street off University Avenue West, behind University Shops Plaza</span><span style="font-size: 10pt;">, u</span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">se south entrance to ECH across from Engineering 6</span><br><br><strong><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: rgb(221, 0, 0);">PARKING</span></strong><br><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Limited Visitor Parking is available in Lot E6 for a flat rate of $5.00</span><br><a href="http://www.uwaterloo.ca/map/index.php" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">http://www.uwaterloo.ca/map/index.php</span></a><br><br><strong><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: rgb(221, 0, 0);">MAILING</span></strong><br><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">University of Waterloo Art Gallery</span><br><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">200 University Avenue West</span><br><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Waterloo, ON, Canada N2L 3G1</span><br><br><br><img alt="logos" width="448" height="30" apple-inline="yes" id="693E244E-E822-48AF-BD2F-6D7FB60446DC" apple-width="yes" apple-height="yes" src="cid:95C314EB-9AA0-44D4-92A5-C00B3143D2E5@nexus.uwaterloo.ca"><br><br><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 8pt;">Image: Jillian McDonald, <em>Valley of the Deer </em>(installation detail).
