I have been asked by the LMDA to circulate the following informa-
tion:
'An unprecedented forum for dialogue and exchange among the different
North American theatre communities will take place in Montreal from
June 6-8, in collaboration with the Festival de theatre des Ameriques.

Literary managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas, the service organ-
ization for the men and women who select, commission and develop
plays at professional theatres and universities across Canada and the
United States, will hold its 8th annual conference in Montreal. This
marks the first time the conference will be held in Canada and re-
flects the growing interest in Canadian theatre throughout the
United States and a desire to promote communication and exchange among
the three theatre communities. This event will also provide an exciting
opportunity for Canadian and Quebecois theatre artists to meet and ex-
chang ideas with their American and European colleagues.

Over three days, a series of panel discussions, readings and special
events will look at currents in Canadian, Quebecois, and world theatre,
highlighting issues of cultural context and cultural exchange including
translation, multiculturalism, diversity, and the relationship between
theatre and community. Numerous panel discussions will be designed
around productions featured in the Festival de theatre des Ameriques;
panelists will include eminent Canadian and U.S. dramaturgs and theatre
artists, as well as international guests. An academic pre-conference
will be held at UQAM the day before the conference to focus on issues
of university training for dramaturgs and the relationship between the
theatre community and academic milieu.

The Festival de theatre des Ameriques has collaborated with the LMDA in
scheduling events so that festival-goers and LMDA participants can take
advantage of both Festival performances and conference activities. Those
attending the conference can also take advantage of special prices for
Festival plays.

Registration for the entire conference is US$100; or single days are
$US40. Discounted rates are available for students, actors, and LMDA
members.

For a conference brochure, or to register, please contact LMDA President
Vicky Abrash in New York at (212) 642 2657; Fax (212) 642 1977, or Con-
ference Coordinator Shelley Tepperman at (514) 528 5615, Fax (514) 528
