PERFORMANCE EVENINGS AT THE LEARNED SOCIETIES CONFERENCE
MONDAY JUNE 6TH AND TUESDAY JUNE 7TH 1994

There will be two evenings of "women in performance" at this
year's Learned Societies Conference, featuring exciting and
innovative creative work by women from across Canada and the
United States.

On Monday June 6th, performances will take place at the
University of Calgary in the Reeve Theatre, starting at 8 p.m.
On Tuesday June 7th, performances will take place at the
Engineered Air Theatre in the Centre for the Performing Arts in
downtown Calgary, also starting at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $10 ($8 for students, seniors, unwaged) and will
be available at the Association for Canadian Theatre Research
information desk at the Learneds or on the door each evening
(subject to availability).

Internationally acclaimed performance artist Holly Hughes will be
performing each evening. Based in New York City, Hughes is well
known for her provocative, exciting and humorous performances.
Each evening will showcase a different work by Hughes (she will
give the first performance in Canada of "World Without End"--the
piece that provoked her de-funding by the NEA) and will be
supported by a different program of solo women's
performances--featuring work by some of Canada's most innovative
women artists working in a number of different performance media.
Full details of each night's program will be available in
mid-May.
