                              CALL FOR PAPERS
                          1995 MLA Conference 1995
                      The International Brecht Society

                              Teaching Brecht

The International Brecht Society, an affiliate organization of the MLA,
announces a session on Brecht and pedagogy at the 1995 MLA Conference in
Chicago. Papers are being solicited that address aspects and problems of
teaching Brecht in North America:

- what works?
- what doesn't work?
- are Brecht's politics relevant or is he simply part of the
canon?
- is Brecht's alleged sexism an issue for the classroom?

The focus may be on dramatic works (as literary texts to be read or to be
produced), prose, or poetry; and the issue of teaching Brecht in German or
in English translation is pertinent. Those who are frustrated with Brecht
and those who have discovered particularly effective strategies for Brecht
are encouraged to submit abstracts that describe and analyze their
experiences. Those who wish to address Brecht's own pedagogy in relation to
teaching situations are also invited to submit abstracts. To participate in
an MLA session, you MUST be a member of the MLA organization.

Please send abstracts by March 10, 1995 to:
