ACTR and theatre practitioners

I enjoyed mulling over Reid Gilbert's comments, as I always do. I recall the
conversation to which he alludes, and I agree entirely with his
retrospective "reading" of it. However, he is obscuring the point I made,
which is just this:
It seems the ACTR has very few members who are theatre practitioners, or
professionals, or whatever term you like. (Mr Newton, with whom Reid had
such a lengthy discussion, is one of these few. I believe he's been a member
of ACTR for longer than I have, but he is an exception to my generalization.)
The ACTR might think that this is an appropriate situation. If not, they
might want to consider why it is so. I suggested one possible reason; you
may prefer others.
I'm going to be away for a couple of weeks, so I won't be able to
contribute any further to this discussion.
