I saw this in this month's PMLA 111.5 (October, 1996) and thought some
Candram members might be interested in contributing Canadian content
to this volume:

Community-based Theater. Proposals are sought for *City Play Grounds:
International Perspectives on Urban Community-Based Theatre, a collection
on community-based, activist theater projects throughout the world that
aim to serve the social and political needs of particular urban or
suburban communities, that deal with issues of concern to the city, and
that often involve community members' staging of their cultures'
narratives and beliefs. (A projected second volume will focus on rural
projects.) The editors invite contributions from both scholars and
practitioners. The "community" may be defined geographically,
sociologically, ethnically, or another way. The editors are particularly
interested in articles that take a cultural-studies,
cultural-materialist, feminist, or performance studies approach and that
contribute to the collection's international survey. Contributors should
include information about themselves (vita, resume, or descriptive
letter) that the editors may pass on to prospective publishers. Send 2-3
page proposals by 1 December 1996 to Susan Haedicke, Dept. of English,
George Washington Univ., Washington, D.C. 20052
(shaedick at gwis2.circ.gwu.edu), or Tobin Nellhaus, 38 Deering Ave.,
Portland, ME 04101 (nellhaus at biddeford.com).
