The University of Lethbridge is currently seeking applications
and nominations for the position of Dean, as Director of the
School of Fine Arts.  The posting follows:

THE UNIVERSITY OF LETHBRIDGE
DEAN, SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS

The University of Lethbridge invites applications for the
position of Dean, as Director of the School of Fine Arts.

The Dean will provide superior administrative competence and
imaginative leadership in encouraging scholarship, creativity and
excellence in teaching within the School of Fine Arts and
initiative in developing effective relationships with external
cultural, educational and business communities.    Responsible
for administering a budget of $3 million, the Dean reports to the
Vice-President (Academic) and works within a university committed
to a quality liberal education for undergraduate students.

The School of Fine Arts is one of five faculties and schools on a
campus of about 5,300 undergraduate students and a limited number
of graduate students.  The School consists of the Divisions of
Music, Art, and Theatre and Dramatic Arts, the University Art
Gallery, the Music Conservatory and the University Theatres.  The
School offers a variety of degrees, including B.F.A. degrees in
Art and Dramatic Arts, a B. Mus.  degree,  combined B.F.A./B.Ed
and B.Mus./B.Ed. degrees with the Faculty of Education, and
majors in Art, Music and Drama for the B.A. degree.  There are
approximately 135 students with a major within the Fine Arts and
a total enrolment of 1,801 in the School, which is located on
campus in the Centre for the Arts.

The University seeks a Dean with a significant record of teaching
and administrative ability and  strong academic, scholarly and
creative achievement and who is eligible for tenure at the rank
of Professor.  Preference will be given to those applicants with
an earned doctorate or equivalent.

This is a five-year renewable term position beginning September
1, 1998 or by agreement.

in the latter case by a resume of qualifications and experience
and the names of three references, should be sent in confidence
to arrive no later than February 2, 1998.
