Hello All -- and a very happy season:

The many people among theatre researchers and artists who deserve
acknowledgement, and the generally low level of attention paid to theatre among Canadian
Studies programmes and even in the Association for CAnadian STudies,
prompts me to pass on this information.

As have other ACS members, I've received an announcement of the ACS Award
of Merit "to acknowledge contributions to the development of Canadian
Studies in Canada." It is given to a person, group or association
"who has continuously and significantly contributed to the development and
dissemination of knowledge about Canada." The Award winners receive a
certificate presented at the ACS annual banquet and a prize of $500.00.

Nominations must be submitted by 1 MAR 1998 and are made by a letter
"introducing the nominee, the nominee's curriculum vitae and letters of
support." Nominees must be residents of Canada.

Nominations are to be sent to:
Award of Merit Committee
Association for Canadian Studies
c/o Universite du Quebec a Montreal
PO Box 8888, Station Centre-Ville
Montreal H3C 3P8
