Subject: Citizens for Local Democracy--"Rebellion of 1997"

On Saturday afternoon, February 15, there will be a re-creation of the
march down Yonge Street led by William Lyon Mackenzie during the Rebellion
of 1837. The planned march was described at the Monday January 27, 1997
Citizens for Local Democracy General Meeting.

In this case, that is, the "Rebellion of 1997", the march is being
organized by people who are involved with the Citizens For Local Democracy
grassroots movement.

The movement was started to oppose the Megacity in Toronto. It has now
expanded its goals to include opposing anti-democratic changes to the
educational system and the downloading to municipalities of the cost of
many services (but not authority over them).

This event is being organized by arts groups, so you can expect a lot of
pageantry, symbolism, and visual imagery. Exact times and marshalling
points will be announed soon.

The Citizens for Local Democracy Hot Line number is (416) 977-8736.

The next meeting of Citizens for Democracy is Monday, February 3, at 7:30
P.M. at Metropolitan United Church, Church and Queen Streets.
