Drama Programme
(Two Positions)


The Drama Programme at the University of Waikato is seeking applications
for two lecturer positions.

Applicants should have either a doctorate or extensive professional theatre
and teaching experience at tertiary and/or professional training level.

The Drama Programme currently offers an undergraduate major as part of the
Bachelor of Arts.  The programme includes both practical and
critical/historical courses at all undergraduate levels.  Plans are
underway to include Drama as part of a new undergraduate degree, and to
develop a full graduate programme at both Honours and Masters level.  These
academic developments are taking place alongside the development of a new
on-campus performing arts facility, which will house programmes in Drama,
Music, Dance and Maori performing arts (Kapa Haka), and which is due to be
opened in the year 2000.  The new Academy of Performing Arts will be not
only the centre of the university's performing arts teaching programme, but
also an important regional and national arts venue.

The two appointees will teach across the full range of the undergraduate
programme, and also be involved in the immediate development of the
graduate programme.  Applications are encouraged from candidates with
particular strengths in at least two of the following areas:  New Zealand
and Australian theatre, American theatre, Feminism and theatre, Asian
theatre.  Applications are also encouraged from candidates with particular
strengths in specific areas of performance practice, including: theatre
design and production, vocal and physical development, improvisation,
creating new works.

The current salary range for Lecturers is NZ$42,993 - NZ$52,989 per annum.
