Nightswimming
presents
a  sing-through  of

LAKE NORA ARMS

Adapted by Jane Miller & Brian Quirt
from Michael Redhill's book

Nightswimming presents a sing-through of LAKE NORA ARMS,
 a musical work-in-progress based on Michael Redhill's acclaimed
book of poetry (Coach House Press, 1993). Lake Nora Arms
explores our longings for youth and simplicity through memories
of a now-demolished cottage country hotel. Songs by Jane Miller
(singer and writer for the band Wind May Do Damage) and a superb
cast of singers from the worlds of theatre and pop music promise a
unique and haunting new work.

Lake Nora Arms features Nola Auguston, Liza Balkan, Christine Brubaker,
Rebecca Campbell, Jennifer Dean, Jonathan Ellul, Alex Fallis, Neil Foster,
Deborah Hay, Stephen Reich, Eliza Jane Scott, Jay Turvey and Dave Wall.
Stage Manager: Paul Mark.

Lake Nora Arms was first presented by Nightswimming at Buddies in Bad
Times' Rhubarb! Festival in 1996. Nightswimming has since commissioned
Jane Miller to write songs based on Redhill's evocative poetry. This
sing-through is the culmination of a workshop which developed those
songs using a choir of 13.

Nightswimming is dedicated to commissioning and developing new plays.
 Directed by Brian Quirt, produced by Naomi Campbell, Nightswimming's
 current projects include:
        * The Whirlpool, Quirt's adaptation of the Jane Urquhart novel,
                will premiere at the Tarragon Theatre in March 2000;
        * An Acre of Time, a Nightswimming commission by Jason Sherman
will
                premiere at the Great Canadian Theatre Company in Ottawa in
May 2000;
        * Quirt's The Death of General Wolfe at Theatre Passe Muraille
earlier this year;
        *  A new play commissioned from Judith Thompson;
        * and Ned Dickens' Jocasta, a Nightswimming commission which
received a
                workshop presentation on May 13.
