new virus

hi all:

i just received an e-mail from a colleague at leeds university, martin
banham, about a new virus that can apparently be spread by simple
e-mails. he tells me he might have unwittingly passed it on and told me
how to check for it (so simple even i could do it). when i followed his
"check" info it showed up on my system. i then followed his directions
and eliminated it.

i believe this to be genuine and, as he did, am sending this to everyone
in my address book to whom i have recently e-mailed. hopefully this easy
check will eliminate the potential problem. martin says that this virus
is not detected by either norton or mcafee and that it remains dormant
for 14 days and then proceeds to wipe out hard drive data.

to prevent this problem, i urge you to do the following:

1. Go to start -- then to "find" or "search" (depending on your
computer)

2. in the "search for" box type in: SULFNBK.EXE This is the virus.

3. In the "look in" make sure you're searching the C drive

4. Hit "search" button ot "find"

5. If the file shows up (it has a strange black icon that will have the
name
    SULFNBK.EXE) DO NOT OPEN IT.

6. RIGHT CLICK ON THE FILE. GO DOWN TO DELETE AND LEFT CLICK.

7. It will ask you if you want to send it to the recycle bin. SAY YES.

8. Go to your desktop (where all your icons are) and double click on the
recycle bin.

9. right click on SULFNBK.EXE and then DELETE it or empty the whole
recycle bin.

IF YOU FIND IT SEND THIS E-MAIL TO ALL IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK BECAUSE
THAT'S HOW IT'S TRANSFERRED.

sorry for the bad news. hopefully you won't find it or at least will
find it in time to avoid problems with your hard drive.

best

don
