Department of Fine Arts

Brock University’s School of Fine and Performing Arts invites applications
for a 10-month appointment as the Visiting Artist in the Department of
Dramatic Arts.  Subject to budgetary approval, the position will be from
August 1, 2002 – May 31, 2003.

The Department of Dramatic Arts offers BA Pass and Honours degrees with a
Major in Dramatic Arts and combining studies in Theatre, Dramatic Literature
and Drama in Education.  Other options include: a 5-year Co-op Program in
Dramatic Arts; a 4 year Pass Major degree in Theatre; and both a
Concentration and a Certificate in Drama in Education for non-Major
students.

Two major theatre production (one per term), a Spring Arts Festival and
independent projects complement our academic offerings.  Each major
production includes a professional guest designer, contracted in
consultation with the Visiting Artist and the Department.

The successful candidate will direct a major production and teach theatre
classes involving from 9-13 contact hours per week, depending on the courses
taught.  A strong commitment to teaching is essential, as is a keen
enthusiasm for and knowledge of the theory and practice of contemporary
theatre.  Applicants should possess an MFA and/or the equivalent in
professional experience and have teaching and directing experience at the
post-secondary level.

In accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, this advertisement is
directed to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.  Interested
candidates are asked to submit a letter of application, a curriculum vitae,
relevant press/portfolio materials, a statement of teaching philosophy, a
short list of plays which the applicant would like to direct and reasons
why, and the names and contact information of three referees to:
