Marc Renaud, President of SSHRC reported at the June 2002 Council
Meeting that there are some optimistic signs in respect to SSHRC
Standard Research Grants:

"A recent House of Commons Industry Committee report recognized the need
for more federal funding for SSHRC.  University presidents from across
the country, voting through the Association of Universities and Colleges
of Canada unanimously passed a resolution requesting an asymmetiric
budget increase for SSHRC in the next federal budget.  In addition,
Congress attendees registered their demand for more social sciences and
humanities research funding through the postcard camparign organized by
HSSFC."
