A mensch is a person who is warm, thoroughly decent, kind, generous, down-to-earth. A good soul. To be described as one is a great compliment.

  Subject: Meaning of 'mensch'

  Dear members

Is there anyone who could explain to me the meaning of "mensch" in this context: "[...] but he was always solid with me throughout our long relationship and I think of him fondly. So, do hundreds of other people because he was, as they say in yiddish (sic), a mensch."?

  Many thanx in advance,
