What the critics said:

JD turns Husseins struggle into a metaphor for all oppressed minorities and a plea for racial and ethnic tolerance. - (Eye, June 5, 2003)

Its a story both poignant and intriguing and told in a manner that holds the audience spellbound (South Asian Observer, June 13, 2003)

With a blast from the past, Ek Qatra Khoon is here to rejuvenate audiences with fresh bursts of emotions. (www.shadesbetween.com, July 2003)

A one-man show, A Drop of Blood describes the historic Battle of Karbala and the martyrdom of the grandson of the Prophet Mohammed, Imam Hussein, 1400 years ago. This is a significant event in Islamic history, and the play draws its relevance to contemporary timesand exhorts us to struggle for truth and the basic rights of human existence.

Originally written and performed in Urdu by actor/director Ashwatthama JD, Ek Qatra Khoon has been received with critical acclaim all over India and at the 21st International Fadjr Theatre Festival in Tehran. It has come to Canada as an English-language performance, devised by Sally Jones, the Artistic Director of Rasik Arts, and performed by its originator, Ashwatthama JD.
