The Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas (LMDA)
present the seventh annual

Mini-Conference on
DRAMATURGY   July 5 and 6, 2004  ...  Toronto

Bringing together playwrights and dramaturgs with other members of the
Canadian theatre community, this annual conference features two full days
devoted to the art of dramaturgy.

Guest speakers will discuss specific projects by addressing in detail the
process they used to develop the play. We also welcome artists from across
Canada and beyond, featuring reports on activities in other major theatre
centres.

Conference Schedule:   {subject to change}

MONDAY JULY 5
10am - 1pm  --  Introductory Session: who is doing what?
1pm - 2:30pm  --  Lunch
2:30pm  --  Jonathan Christenson from Edmonton¹s Catalyst Theatre will speak
about his company¹s unique developmental process and in particular his work
with Catalyst¹s in-house designer.
3:45pm - 5:00pm  --  Marjorie Chan will explore the playwriting process
surrounding her first major production, China Doll.

TUESDAY JULY 8
10am  --  Jillian Keiley, from St. John¹s, Newfoundland, is one of Canada¹s
boldest directors, and will discuss her recent creations using choral music
and choreography.
11:15am  --  Andy Houston is known for large scale site-specific projects;
he will discuss a show he created in an abandoned asylum in Weyburn,
Saskatchewan.
12:30pm - 1:00pm  --  Elyssa Livergant will discuss the role of dramaturgy
in devised projects in the UK - a political reimagining of roles in the
space of creation.
1:00 - 2:30pm  --  Lunch
2:30pm  --  Guillermo Verdecchia will discuss politicized theatre through
the creation of The Adventures of Ali & Ali and the Axes of Evil.
3:45pm  --  Kelly Thornton and Yvette Nolan will address the status of women
in Canadian theatre and the dramaturgy of work by women.

Location  --  Buddies in Bad Times Theatre
(12 Alexander Street, north of College, east off of Yonge Street)

Admission is free.
All spaces for the conference have been filled, but a waiting list has been
started.
