Brock University invites applications for a ten month limited term
appointment as Visiting Artist in Design in the Department of Dramatic Arts,
beginning July 15, 2004. Candidates should possess a Ph.D. or MFA
specialising in Design, demonstrate excellence in teaching at the post
secondary level and hold a record of substantial creative and/or research
accomplishment.  Experience in the professional theatre  will be an asset,
as will expertise in one or more of the following areas: theatre history,
sound design, image-based theatre, collective creation, interdisciplinary
design.

The successful applicant will design two major departmental  productions in
the Sean O' Sullivan theatre and will teach two upper year courses: an
Introductory Design course at the third year level and Theatre as Cultural
Practice ( 20th century), a required course in the Dramatic Literature
stream that integrates theatre history, performance and design theory and
dramatic literature.

With an enrolment of close to 800 and over 200 majors, the Department of
Dramatic Arts offers a BA and a BA Honours in Theatre, Dramatic Literature
or Drama in Education/Theatre; a four-year BA in Theatre; a concurrent BA/B
Ed and Co-op options in Drama in Education, Theatre and Dramatic Literature.
A Certificate in Drama in Education also is offered.  The program currently
has five tenured or tenure-track faculty in Theatre and Dramatic Literature,
two full time technical staff, and several part-time instructors drawn from
education and from the professional theatre.  More information on Brock

Brock University is located in St. Catharines, Ontario in the heart of the
scenic Niagara peninsula, approximately one hour's drive from the city of
Toronto and 40 minutes from Buffalo, New York.  A stable manufacturing base
in addition to expanding sectors such as wine-making, tourism and
horticulture provides for a dynamic high growth area with an exceptional
range of cultural and recreational opportunities.
