Priya Bannerjee is dead and has only three days to visit her past, pay homage to life, and talk to her family in their dreams before going to the ‘waiting room’ of the spirit world. Will she be able to come to terms with her life in that time? With a spirit-guide in the guise of her Hindi-film idol Dilip Kumar, she just might!
Filled with humor and humanity, as the material world and spirit world mingle on stage, Tanika Gupta’s play asserts that life is meaningful for its human relationships, and self-knowledge leads to Paradise.
The Waiting Room, by British-Bengali Tanika Gupta, premiered in May 2000 at the Royal National Theatre, England, with Shabana Azmi in the lead role. Ms. Gupta received the John Whiting Award that year from The Arts Council of Great Britain for The Waiting Room. The Canadian cast includes: Ronica Sajnani, Ishwar Mooljee, Adeel Ahmad, nisha ahuja, David Fujino, and Selvamani Rajaram. Directed by Sally Jones - Lighting Design by Robin Dutt - Set Design by Lee Bouchard.
