CALL FOR PAPERS
PANEL SESSION: SPACE AND SUBJECTIVITY IN PERFORMANCE

The Association for Canadian Theatre Research/Association de la
recherche théâtrale au Canada (ACTR/ARTC) will hold its annual
conference May 28 to May 31, 2005 at the University of Western Ontario
as part of the Congress of the Social Sciences and Humanities.

We invite proposals for a theme panel at the conference on “Space and
Subjectivity in Canadian performance.” The panel will explore how
performance space and spaces of performance can serve as productive
locations for testing out the limits of self in the contemporary world.

A range of paper topics and methodological approaches are welcome. We
especially encourage panel presentations that do any of the following:
1) explore this theme from a variety of interdisciplinary perspectives
(theatre, performances studies, cultural geography, architecture,
archaeology, etc.); 2) examine experimental performance genres,
including environment theatre, landscape theatre, and site-specific
theatre; and/or 3) use non-traditional presentation formats to
performatively engage with intersections of space and identity.

It is intended that this panel will serve as a point of reference for
an upcoming issue in Theatre Research in Canada on Space and
Subjectivity in Performance. While participation in the panel does not
guarantee inclusion in this special issue of TRIC, the conference
represents an excellent opportunity to initiate, explore, and evaluate
potential topics for publication.

Please submit proposals in the form of a 250 word abstract by February
15, 2005. Proposals can be sent by email to:
