On March 21, Magnetic North Theatre Festival staff and Board members
were joined by representatives of government, sponsor organizations,
venues, the media and the arts community for the launch of the 2006
edition of the Festival. The event kicked off at 11 AM at Petro-Canada
Hall at Memorial University?s School of Music, one of this year?s
venues, with a welcome from MUN President Dr. Axel Meisen.

This year Artistic Director Mary Vingoe wanted to do something a little
different from a traditional press conference: ?We?re announcing
fabulous shows with great performers, so why not include some of that
magic in the launch itself?? Contributing to the magic were host Jonny
Harris (Out of the Bog) and live performances by guests Berni Stapleton
(Mary Magdalene and Adventures in Sobriety), Andy Jones, (director, Out
of The Bog) and Jeremiah Sparks (The Satchmo? Suite).

With Harris hosting an on-stage talk show, Mary released the details of
the 2006 line-up. Mary says she?s thrilled with this year?s programming
?We?ve got ten shows that reflect some of the most innovative theatre
from across Canada, plus an exciting student production, Fear of
Flight, as part of Newfoundland and Labrador Scene. We?ve got multiple
award winners and two world premieres?one from each end of the
country.? The selections range from big-stage musical and multi-media
productions to reflective pieces in more intimate theatre settings.
?There?s something for everyone, including very young audiences.?

This year?s shows are presented in three series, each offering a
distinct theatre experience.
