Dear Theatre Studies Colleagues:

As we are moving into the fall season, we here at Talonbooks are busy
preparing our spring 2007 publication schedule. Our list in 2006
contained an exciting mix of work, offering books that challenge
established modes of thought and ideology. Notably we were pleased to
launch THEATRE AND AUTOBIOGRAPHY: WRITING AND PERFORMING LIVES IN
THEORY AND PRACTICE, edited by Sherrill Grace and Jerry Wasserman. As
Karl Siegler, President & Publisher of Talonbooks notes, the book maps
and theorizes the phenomenon of "reality-based" performance, a
ubiquitous form of the public imagination in the 21st century. One of
the first texts in this field, the book contributes to the profile and
stature of this research subject as al alternative to the deep-seated
anti-humanism so long associated in Western culture with modernist
ideology and aesthetics.

Talonbooks is very pleased to announce the forthcoming publication of
SPECTACLE OF EMPIRE: MARC LESCAROBT'S THEATRE OF NEPTUNE IN NEW FRANCE
in a special 400th anniversary commemorative edition by Jerry
Wasserman. This new edition includes the original French script along
with its long out-of-print English translations by American historical
preservationist Harriette Taber Richardson and Canadian scholars Eugene
and Renate Benson, as well as Ben Jonson's "The Masque of Blackness"
(1605), an illustrative contemporary English imperial spectacle.
Theatre scholar and practitioner Jerry Wasserman offers extensive
historical and critical analysis in the introduction and the extended
bibliography.

2006 also saw the publication of THE VENTRILOQUIST by Larry Tremblay
and IN A WORLD CREATED BY A DRUNKEN GOD by Drew Hayden Taylor. A full
thirteen of Talon's dramatists: Michel Marc Bouchard, George Boyd,
Sally Clark, Marie Clements, Daniel Danis, Lorena Gale, Daniel MacIvor,
Joan MacLeod, Morris Panych, Vittorio Rossi, Drew Hayden Taylor, Larry
Tremblay and Guillermo Verdecchia were long-listed for the prestigious
Siminovitch Prize in 2005, with Daniel MacIvor and Joan MacLeod
included among the seven finalists.
