The Dept. of Drama, University of Alberta, is organizing an
international Forum on
Bi-Lingality on the Stage (Friday Sept. 14, 1:00-3:00 pm, Timms). The
occasion is the hosting of the bi-lingual production of _Romeo &
Juliet_ (14, 15, 16 Sept.) in German and Ukrainian
(Theaterwissenschaft, LMU (Munich), Lessja Ukrainka, Kiev). The issue
is more and more relevant to the Canadian stage, and comes with all
kinds of problems, like how to access text understanding, organisation
of rehearsals, physicality on the stage, how does voice-coaching work,
where is the audience in this, what kind of experience for
actor/audience relationship, the role of the dramaturg, etc.

If anybody has researched the subject, your response would be greatly
appreciated.

Friday, September 14, 1:00-3:00 pm – Forum: “Bilinguality on the
Stage” (Drs. Kazubko and Rybikowa (LMU), Drs. Whitman, Cisneros, and
Ruthner (UofA), moderated by Piet Defraeye and Donia Mounsef) Open to
Public
Location: Timms Centre Lobby
