Assistant Professor of Theatre Studies—University of British Columbia 

The Department of Theatre and Film at the University of British Columbia invites applications for a 
tenure-track Assistant Professor of Theatre Studies. The Department seeks a scholar who can 
contribute broadly to the undergraduate and graduate programs in Theatre Studies. To 
complement the strengths of the Department, additional expertise in Asian, Aboriginal, or pre-
19th century Theatre will be considered an asset. 

Applicants must have a PhD (or be near completion) in Theatre, Drama, Performance Studies or a 
cognate discipline, plus publications, conference presentations, and some university teaching 
experience. They are expected to demonstrate potential for high quality research and teaching at 
the graduate and undergraduate levels.

The successful candidate will teach introductory and senior undergraduate courses in theatre 
history and theory, and graduate courses in his or her specialization, supervise MA and PhD 
theses, and contribute to curricular development. She or he will be expected to maintain an active 
program of research, teaching, and service.  

The Department of Theatre and Film at UBC maintains an international reputation for excellence 
with 16 full-time faculty and numerous part-time faculty and guest artists, and is a significant 
centre for research, creation and production.  Opportunities for multi-disciplinary collaboration 
are abundant with scholars and artists within the Department and across the campus.  For more

The position is subject to budgetary approval. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and 
experience. The start date is 1 July 2009. Applicants must include an application letter, CV, a
