Third Wall News: Pay-what-you-can Tartuffe TONIGHT

Dear Candramarians,

My apologies for inadvertently broadcasting my Tartuffe announcement across
Candrama bandwidth (I meant to only be emailing personal contacts around
Ottawa). I realize this listserv is not used for show promotion, that
almost all of you are not able to attend Ottawa productions and have no use
for email clutter about them, and that I have probably accidentally broken a
listserv rule—or at least etiquette.

If it makes anyone feel better, perhaps this slip can serve to stir up some
interest—even debate?—about rhymed verse translation. I had tried to stir
up the same via an email featuring an excerpt of my Misanthrope a year or
two ago. Now that I have a Tartuffe as well (as before, using an English
twist on the French Alexandrine verse rather than following the usual course
of converting to “o o that shakespeherian rag” of iambic pentameter),
perhaps there will be readers out there with some literary (or otherwise)
interest in the text, or the subject of translating rhymed verse in general,
though few to none will care about the staging.

Apologetic cheers,

David Whiteley

TARTUFFE

"In the wrong hands religion is the most dangerous thing in the world."

Third Wall's final production of the 2007-08 season opens this coming
Wednesday at the Irving Greenberg Theatre Centre. Molière's classic play
Tartuffe looks at religious hypocrisy in the more contemporary world of the
southern United States. With Rideau award winner Kris Joseph as Tartuffe and
veteran actor Beverley Wolfe as Madame Pernelle , this new adaptation in a
rhymed verse English translation by David Whiteley is sure to be a success!
Directed by Third Wall's own James Richardson, this production features the
graduating class of the Ottawa School of Speech and Drama's pre-professional
program.

Tickets are $26 for adults and $20 for students/seniors. There is a
pay-what-you-can performance on Tuesday, May 27th, and the show runs until
June 7th. For more information, please visit www.thirdwall.com
<http://www.thirdwall.com/> or call our box office at 613 236 1425.
