Theatre Alberta presents

Teatr ZAR (Wroclaw, Poland) coming to Edmonton at Dramaworks 2009!

Special feature professional Masterclass
Teatr ZAR Intensive
July 9 – 12, 2009
Thursday – Sunday, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Professional performers intrigued by Polish theatre, philosophies of ensemble work, and polyphonic music will love this profoundly inspiring and rare professional development opportunity. Teatr ZAR, working in the Promotional program at the Grotowski Institute in Wroclaw, Poland, combines physical training and performance with the power of song. The core company collected traditional polyphonic songs through research expeditions to Georgia, Bulgaria, and Greece. Teatr ZAR reshapes this musical material into stunning theatre pieces. Their work focuses on the long-term development of actors’ skills, as well as discovering new forms of expression. It demonstrates that theatre is not only seeing; it is something that above all should be heard. From such hearing, deep images are born that are impossible to create even by means of the most modern theatre technology; where even the body of a singing actor shines and emanates with the energy of sound, of the
song that lies within it. The voice work is interwoven with physical work that centralizes energy in the body, awakens the centre and grounds the energy of the performer. Participants should come in good health and be prepared to work hard physically. A trained voice is not required, but you must enjoy group singing.

Theatre Alberta is pleased to offer this 4-day international workshop at the incredibly low cost of $350 (lunch and GST included) or $325 before May 29. Registration is now open! You can send your completed registration to Theatre Alberta or register online at www.theatrealberta.com. Applications to this workshop will be reviewed. Please include a resume or listing of your experience. Special bursaries are available based on financial need. Please contact us for more information.
