LOUISE H. FORSYTH’S ANTHOLOGY OF QUÉBEC WOMEN’S PLAYS
WINS THE PATRICK O’NEILL AWARD FOR BEST EDITING

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, April 28, 2011. Toronto, Ontario… Playwrights Canada Press is proud to announce that the Anthology of Québec Women’s Plays in English Translation, Volume III has been awarded the Patrick O’Neill Award by the Canadian Association for Theatre Research (CATR). Forsyth is the first receipt of the Patrick O’Neill Award, which is presented to the editor of the best collection of essays or plays.

Anthology of Québec Women’s Plays in English Translation, Volume III provides English readers an opportunity to access some of the groundbreaking works of female Québécois playwrights. The collection features works by Nathalie Boisvert, Carole Fréchette, Suzanne Lebeau, Louise Bombardier, and many others. Covering a diverse range of subject matter, many of these plays are being published in English for the first time.

Louise H. Forsyth has written two theses on the classic French writer Molière, composed scholarly studies about French and Québec playwrights, and theorized about acting and dramatic writing. Her areas of academic specialization are feminist performance and dramaturgy in Québec. Forsyth is honoured to be the inaugural recipient of the Patrick O’Neill Award, and is pleased to be able to recognize the struggles of female playwrights from Québec through her work.
