Announcement of the winners of CATR/ACRT Awards

At the banquet of the Canadian Association for Theatre Research/ Association canadienne de la recherche théâtrale (CATR/ACRT),  held in Fredericton on May 30, 2011, the following awards were presented.

 

The inaugural CATR/ACRT Award was presented to Mia Perry. These new awards of $500 are the result of our successful fundraising campaign and are intended to help participants attend and present their research at the annual conference. 

 

The $1,000 Heather McCallum Scholarship was awarded this year to Richard Wilcox in support of his research on Daniel MacIvor. 

 

The selections for the CATR / ACTR 2010 - 2011 Scholarly Awards are: 

 

Another new award, the Patrick O'Neill Award for Editing, was presented to:

Louise Forsyth, ed. Anthology of Quebec Women's Plays in English Translation. Vol III (1997-2009). Toronto: Playwrights Canada, 2010.

 

Special mention was also made for two other editors:

Cynthia Zimmerman, ed. Reading Carol Bolt.  Toronto: Playwrights Canada, 2010.

M. André Bourassa, ed. La Trilogie inachevee. Montreal: L'instant scene, 2010.

 

The Saddlemyer Award for a Book in English or French had two winners this year:

Erin Hurley for  National Performance: Representing Quebec from Expo 67 to Celine Dion. University of Toronto Press, 

 and Magdalena Kazubowski-Houston for Staging Strife: Lessons from Performing Ethnography with Polish Roma Women. McGill-Queen's UP.

The Godin Award for an article in French was presented to:                              

Yves Jubinville , "Inventaire après liquidation : étude de la réception des Fées ont soif de Denise Boucher (1978)" published in Annuaire théâtral 46 (2010).

 

Honourable mention went to Lucie Robert for "Yvette Mercier-Gouin ou Le désir du théâtre," also published in Annuaire théâtral 46 (2010).

 

The  Plant Award for an article in English also had two winners this year:

Barry Freeman for "Navigating the Prague-Toronto-Manitoulin Theatre Project: A Postmodern Ethnographic Approach to Collaborative Intercultural Theatre."TRIC 30.1-2 (2009): 58-81,

 

and Yana Meerzon for "The Exilic Teens: On the Intracultural Encounters in Wajdi Mouawad's Theatre," TRIC 30 1-2 (2009): 82-110.

 

And the 2011 CATR/ACRT Honorary Membership was awarded to Jenny Munday for her outstanding contribution to Canadian theatre.
