Interspecies Performance

Call for Papers

Theatre and performance studies have long had an interest in the “inter,” most notably the intercultural and interdisciplinary, both of which have a key relationship to the “interspecies” that will be the subject of this special issue of Theatre Journal. Ecocriticism was introduced to theatre and performance studies two decades ago by scholars such as Una Chaudhuri, and since then animal studies, interspecies performance, and Chaudhuri’s “zooësis” have with increasing frequency taken centre stage at conferences, working groups, festivals and performances in the US, UK, and Australia as well as in articles, books, and special issues of journals internationally. Submissions to this special issue are invited to focus on performative intersections between species. We are particularly interested in submissions that are interdisciplinary and that illuminate the performative constitution of subjectivity, human and non-human.  

This special issue will be edited by Ric Knowles, Coeditor, Theatre Journal.  Submissions (6000-9000 words) should be e-mailed to Bob Kowkabany, Managing Editor, at doriclay at aol.com by February 15, 2013.
