The Department of Drama and Speech Communication at the University of Waterloo invites applications for a three-year Definite Term Lecturer position in Theatre Design and Production, with a start date of July 1, 2013. Based in a liberal arts faculty that aspires to high national and international standards, the Drama program currently serves approximately 80 majors. It combines courses in theatre and performance practice, history, literature, and theory, and produces at least three course-related, publicly presented productions each academic year, which are led by faculty, visiting artists, and students.

The Definite Term Lecturer will teach courses in theatre design and production in the fall and winter terms; make significant creative and managerial contributions to UW Drama productions; and perform various service and administrative responsibilities in the Drama program and the department. Candidates will have a terminal degree in theatre design and/or production, or equivalent professional experience. Depending on specific expertise, the successful candidate’s teaching responsibilities might include Introduction to Technical Production 1 and 2; Design for the Theatre, Lighting Design for the Theatre, and Theatre Management and Technology. The Definite Term Lecturer will also oversee Drama production staff and student crews, collaborate with faculty and visiting artists, and supervise student thesis projects in design and production as appropriate.
