Master of Arts in Theatre (MA) (Theatre Theory and Dramaturgy)

The Department of Theatre offers a two-year program leading to the degree of Master of Arts (MA) in Theatre (Theatre Theory and Dramaturgy).

This program gives students the opportunity to develop and perfect their analytical, critical and scholarly skills, as well as enrich the intellectual curiosity required for doctoral studies.
We offer two MA thesis options:

·         The traditional MA thesis consists of a review of literature, its critical analysis and synthesis (100 pages);

·         MA thesis with creative project consists of a creative project and its critical analysis  (50 pages).

Master of Fine Arts (MFA)(Directing for the Theatre)

The Department of Theatre of the University of Ottawa offers the only bilingual Master of Fine Arts in Theatre (MFA) (Directing) in North America.

Founded in the fall of 2004, this program allows students to explore approaches to directing specific to Canada's two principal theatrical traditions.

Artists who have taught in the program include Peter Batakliev, Gil Champagne, Hélène Ducharme, Peter Hinton, Gregory Hlady, Jean-Marie Papapietro, Brian Quirt, Alexandre Marine and Nadia Ross.

The MFA in directing accepts two students per year, and there are only four candidates in the program at any given time.

Due to the demanding nature of this degree, the MFA in directing can only be undertaken as a full-time course of study.

Maîtrise ès arts en théâtre (M.A.) (théorie théâtrale et dramaturgie)

Le Département de théâtre de l’Université d’Ottawa offre un programme de maîtrise ès arts d’une durée de deux ans menant à l'obtention d'une maîtrise ès arts en théâtre (théorie théâtrale et dramaturgie).

Ce programme offre aux étudiants l’occasion de développer et de perfectionner leur capacité d’analyse et leur sens critique tout comme les aptitudes méthodologiques et intellectuelles requises pour poursuivre des études au niveau doctoral. Le Département de théâtre offre deux formats de thèse de maîtrise (M.A.) :

·         La thèse de type traditionnel est le fruit d'un travail de recherche appuyé sur une analyse documentaire et sur les théories et les méthodes d'analyse critique pertinentes au sujet traité (100 pages) ;

·         La thèse avec projet de création comprend une composante écrite (50 pages) et une composante pratique destinées à répondre à une même question de recherche.

Maîtrise en pratique théâtrale (M.P.T.) (mise en scène)

Le Département de théâtre de l’Université d’Ottawa offre le seul programme bilingue de maîtrise en pratique théâtrale (M.P.T.) (mise en scène) en Amérique du Nord.

Créé à l’automne 2004, ce programme novateur permet aux étudiants et étudiantes de recevoir une formation pratique rigoureuse axée sur le répertoire, tout en approfondissant leurs connaissances des deux traditions théâtrales principales du pays.

Peter Batakliev, Gil Champagne, Hélène Ducharme, Peter Hinton, Gregory Hlady, Jean-Marie Papapietro, Brian Quirt, Alexandre Marine et Nadia Ross sont parmi les artistes invités qui ont enseigné dans le programme.

Le programme est contingenté : deux candidats seulement sont admis par année et le programme se limite en tout temps à quatre étudiants.

Seuls les étudiants à temps plein seront admis.
