                                                  CALL FOR PAPERS

                                                    Demeter Press

Is seeking submissions for an edited collection entitled:

                                          Menstruation Now

                                          Editor: Berkeley Kaite

Extended Deadline for Abstracts: May 31st, 2017

Menstruation and menstrual blood go beyond the brute particulars of biology and are discursively constructed by all facets of culture. This volume was conceived in response to Donald Trump’s remark, while still a candidate, about a moderator, regarding her pointed question to him about his comments on women: “you could see there was blood coming out of eyes, blood coming out of her wherever.” Its motivating question is: what does menstrual blood perform?

The purpose of this scholarly collection is to bring together discussions of the many and diverse ways in which menstruation is featured in various media. I have chapters on menstrual blood in film, pornography, advertising, legal cases, poetry, art. I am seeking chapters on menstruation in theatrical productions.

                                                          Submissions Guidelines:

Please send abstracts of approximately 300 words together with a short bio to Berkeley Kaite, McGill University, Department of English: (Berkeley.kaite at mcgill.ca<mailto:Berkeley.kaite at mcgill.ca>) by May 31st, 2017.

Accepted papers of 4000-5000 words (15-20 pages including references and endnotes) will be due August 31st, 2017. Contributors will be responsible for ensuring that manuscripts adhere to MLA style (eighth edition).
