of the International Association of Theatre Critics<BR><BR>Montreal, 29 May - 3

<DIV><FONT color=#000000><BR>We are pleased to invite you to attend<I> Breaking
the Language Barrier</I>, a symposium being held as part of the 20th Congress of
the International Association of Theatre Critics (IATC) during Montreal's
Festival de théâtre des Amériques. The symposium segment of the Congress is open
to the public and runs from 30 May to 1 June. The symposium program is copied
below.<BR><BR><I>Breaking the Language Barrier</I> is bringing together a
hundred critics from around the world to present papers and discuss the
symposium theme. On 30 May the conference will open with sessions addressing the
theme from the perspectives of both theatrical and critical practice.<BR><BR>The
session on the morning of 31 May, featuring presenters from Central America,
South America and the Caribbean, will consist of papers specifically addressing
the topic in terms of the theatres of the Americas.</FONT><BR><FONT
color=#000000></FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000>The morning of 1 June will focus on Canadian and
Quebecois theatre. Two critical overviews will be followed by a panel discussion
featuring authors and theatremakers from Quebec and Canada, including Judith
Thompson, Wajdi Mouawad, Daniel David Moses, Brigitte Haentjens, Jacob Wren
(Death Waits), and Daniel Meilleur.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000><BR>All symposium sessions will have simultaneous
English and French translation and entry is free of charge. The conference
schedule is:<BR><BR>Wednesday 30 May 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM<BR>Thursday 31 May 9:30
AM to Noon<BR>Friday 1 June 9:30 AM to Noon.<BR><BR>And it is being held at the
