American Indians and First Nations Peoples in Popular Media in Canada and the
United States.
Deadline for submissions: October 15,
2001.

For this session, I hope to have multiple issues on the
table, with the focus being on the way in which Native people are
(re-)presented in popular mainstream media in both Canada and the U.S. Papers
displaying a comparative (Canada and U.S.) analysis are encouraged. Papers
which consider solely U.S. or Canadian imagery will work for this session as
well. Papers may focus on images of Native people in film or TV, or they may
deal with the way in which Native people are represented in the news, or
rather, what is represented. In addition, papers may address the mascot
issue(s).

Please send submissions and/or abstracts to:
Sara C.
