<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Montreal Playwrights’
Workshop Montreal presents its second <b>Artists for Artists Art Auction</b>
on April 12, 2002 at 8pm. This auction will feature works from more than
35 major contemporary artists from Quebec and Ontario. Sylvia Safdie is
the event’s honorary president. Proceeds from the auction go to support
workshops of new Canadian plays, while a portion of the funds raised will
be returned to the visual artists.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p></o:p>
<p class="MsoBodyTextIndent" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-INDENT: 0in"><span
style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'">Participating
artists include <b>Irene Whittome,</b> this year’s </span><span
style="COLOR: black; FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt">Governor
General’s Award’s recipient</span><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'">;
<b>Richard-Max Tremblay</b>, who has won awards and exhibited in Canada,
the USA and Europe and whose artwork can be found in the collections of
Musée d’art Contemporain de Montréal, the National Art Gallery
in Ottawa and Musée du Québec; and <b>Gabor Szilasi</b>,
who has exhibited in Canada, Hungary, France, Poland and Italy and whose
works are collected by the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography
in Ottawa, the National Art Gallery in Ottawa and the Stedelijik Museum
in Amsterdam. The auction will also make available works by such distinguished
artists as Adèle Beaudry, Gilbert Boyer, David Cowles, David Elliott,
Janice Flood-Turner, John Fox, Marc Garneau, Bernard Gamoy, Juan Geuer,
Bernie Kelly Goulem, John Heward, Tom Hopkins, Lynn Hughes, Holly King,
Christian Knudsen, Peter Krausz, Doreen Lindsay, Janet Logan, Billy Mavreas,
Michael Merrill, Guido Molinari, François Morelli, David Moore,
Mark Mullin, Robert Murray, Daniel Oxley, Leopold Plotek, Linda Rutenberg,
Sylvia Safdie, Susan Scott, David Sorensen, and Marion Wagschall. Please

auction will take place at MAI (Montreal, Arts Interculturels), 3680 Jeanne
Mance, Montreal, at 8pm. Doors will be open for viewing, with cocktails
and hors d’oeuvres available, beginning at 6pm. Tickets are $50.00 each.
Guests may choose between having the ticket price applied towards purchase
of an artwork or receiving a tax receipt of $35.00. Tickets can be obtained

in 1963, Playwrights’ Workshop Montreal is a leading professional theatre
centre dedicated to the development of contemporary work and new writers
for the Canadian stage. In the past three years alone, over 70 plays developed
through PWM have gone on to production at venues as varied as the Festival
de Théâtre des Ameriques, Centaur Theatre and the Stratford
Festival.
