<P>Sarasvàti Productions is proud to present public showings of the workshop of a new script DEATH OF LOVE. This script has been in development for over three years including extremely well-received readings in Toronto and Winnipeg. An earlier one-act version of the script won the UNI Theatre International Playwrighting Competition in 2000.</P>

<P>DEATH OF LOVE is a black comedy that explores how we deal with grief and loss. Rene is having a hard time letting go of Max, her ex-fiancé who was killed in a car accident. Just when she finally takes the big step and starts seeing someone else, Max shows up as a ghost dead set on haunting her. Add to this Rene’s slightly eccentric mother and her boring new dental surgeon boyfriend and it is clear why Rene is having difficulty coping.</P>

<P>Writer, Hope McIntyre recently had her play "Trauma" produced in Vancouver by Theatre In The Raw. Her earlier script "Hunger" was produced in Toronto and Winnipeg, as well as being published in <U>International Plays for Young Audiences</U> (Meriwether Publishing Co). Hope has also recently been elected Chair of the Women’s Caucus for the Playwrights’ Union of Canada. The script for DEATH OF LOVE has undergone intensive development with dramaturge <STRONG>Val Shantz </STRONG>over the past two months. The workshop production features local actors: <STRONG>Shawn Kowalke, Dennis Persowich, Sherry Seymour, Susan Tremblay and Jason Westmacott</STRONG>.</P>

<P>The goal of this work is to fulfill the portion of Sarasvàti Productions’ mandate dedicated to emerging artists. The development of new work is a key process for the growth of local writers, as well as providing an opportunity for dramaturge, performers and technical artists to be a part of the process of creation from the beginning. Due to the risky nature of developing new work, the workshop production allows the script to be brought before an audience without the high costs of a full staging. It also provides the opportunity to gage the work with the aid of an audience, which results in further rewrites and a stronger script.</P>
