I received this press release in the mail today and thought I would pass it on. Most people researching the performance history of Québec are familar with the work of Françoise Sullivan as a visual artist, choreographer and member of the Automatistes. Less known is the fact that, between 1945 and 1947, Sullivan studied modern dance and choreography in New York as a student at the Boas School of Dance and as a member of the modern dance company, Boas Dance Group, which were both run by Franziska Boas, the daughter of the influential anthropologist, Franz Boas. Carolyn Bilderback was a student at the Boas studio and a company member during the years Sullivan was in New York, and the two young dancers became close friends. More than sixty years later, Sullivan and Bilderback have renewed their friendship.

In a testament to creative longevity and international cooperation, Sullivan has invited Bilderback to perform in Montréal this coming weekend.
