style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">Othello</I> by Ric Knowles, one of Canada’s
leading drama and theatre scholars. The essays discuss such major figures as
Robert Lepage, Ann Marie MacDonald, Djanet Sears, Michael O’Brien, Ken Gass,
Robin Phillips, Marco Micone, and Martine Beaulne. Taken together they explore
both the role that Canada has played in contemporary understandings of
Shakespeare, and the role that Shakespeare has played in the constitution of
postcolonial Canadian subjectivity and nationhood.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

Knowles, professor of drama at the University of Guelph, is the editor of <I

author of <I style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">The Theatre of Form and the
Production of Meaning: Contemporary Canadian Dramaturgies</I> (1999) and <I
style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">Reading the Material Theatre</I> (2004),
co-editor of <I style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">Staging Coyote’s Dream: An
Anthology of First Nations Drama in English</I> (2003) and of <I
style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">Modern Drama: Defining the Field</I> (2003),
and editor of <I style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">Theatre in Atlantic
Canada</I> (1988). He has published over eighty chapters and articles on
Shakespeare and on Canadian drama and theatre.<I
