<div align="left"><font face="Times New Roman" size="3"><span style="font-size:12pt">Despite the identification in the early 1980s of significant gender inequality
within Canadian theatres, there are still many areas of concern for women in
theatre. In addition, there has been limited critical inquiry into topics related to
women in theatre, particularly as related to theatre in the Maritime Provinces,
despite the presence of women-focussed theatre groups and active professional
and amateur theatre communities in all three provinces. </span></font></div>

<div align="left"><font face="Times New Roman" size="3"><span style="font-size:12pt">On Saturday, March 19, 2005, Mount Saint Vincent University will host a one-
day workshop on the topic of Women in Theatre with special emphasis on
productions by theatre companies in the Maritime Provinces, and plays and
performances by playwrights and theatre practitioners whose work reflects the
diverse cultures of the region, or who are associated with the theatre community
of the region. Invited speakers include award-winning playwright Wendy Lill,
and Rebecca Burton and Denyse Lynde, representatives of the National
Committee on the Status of Women in Canadian Theatre. </span></font></div>

<div align="left"><font face="Times New Roman" size="3"><span style="font-size:12pt">The goal is to bring together theatre researchers and practitioners in the
Maritime Provinces to identify and clarify directions in research related to
women in theatre and to establish networks of practitioners and researchers with
similar interests in order to encourage researcher-practitioner collaboration and
close examination of the engagement of theory and practice. </span></font></div>
