You might also browse through some of the public discussion lists
dedicated to a given software to get a sense of what issues are coming
up and what the users are talking about. I think you can find those by
doing a web search or through one of the reference sites above.<br>

As for what I'm using . . . The were three main products available at
the UTBookstore when I was looking: EndNote, ProCite, and Reference
Manager. Crazy thing is, they are all made by Thomson ISI ResearchSoft
<a class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E" href="http://thomsonisiresearchsoft.com"><http://thomsonisiresearchsoft.com></a> (they have a comparison chart
of all three software and trial versions for download.). I ended up
getting ProCite because I liked the interface and how it does searches
within a database (though it doesn't have spell check while EndNote,
the more popular programme, does -- the logic of this escapes me). I
still like ProCite but unfortunately it looks like the company is not
going to keep maintaining it and there's been no new versions for
several years now. (Just my luck! I also prefer WordPerfect [the
superior choice!] to MSWord.)<br>

You might also like to check out which software your institution
supports and consider if you are going to share your information i the
future (importing and exporting compatibilities).<br>

Finally, I doubt it's a likely choice, but I glimpse from a discussion
list that there are also open source cross-platform bibliographic
software floating around. I don't know much about those. They would
have less easy technical support than the commercial products.<br>

Here's a different question for you. What kind of bibliography software do you use? Are you pleased with it? Where did you get it and how expensive was it?
I purchased Biblioscape a couple of years ago (Lite edition, online about $US40 I think) just to keep track of bibliography lists (the software can do all sorts of other research functions, but as it's not on my laptop, so I only use it as a biblio database). It is great for the most part but seems strangely unstable at times. This week it suddenly blicked out on me with a violation error and in the recovery I lost my data from the last couple of weeks. This has happened a couple of times before and I'm getting a bit frustrated with it, so I was wondering if others have had better experiences with bibliography software and what kinds you might recommend.
