Even as late as May he was coming out in his wheelchair to performances to exhort audiences to give to the fundraising campaign. He was an extraordinary person of unique talents who gave a great deal to his community. After a lengthy battle with prostate cancer Tibor passed away this morning. <BR> <BR> Tibor’s involvement in the theatre world spanned 70 years starting with radio plays in his hometown of Budapest. He immigrated to Canada from Hungary in 1958, immediately becoming involved with the Ottawa Little Theatre as a director. He worked with many companies including the Canadian Players, the Winnipeg Ballet, Manitoba Theatre Centre, Shaw Festival, National Theatre Centre and the Citadel Theatre. In 1976 he became the artistic director of Magnus Theatre in Thunder Bay. <BR> <BR> He found his adopted home in 1982 when he became artistic director of Persephone Theatre. Under his artistic direction Persephone has become one of the most successful and stable regional theatres in the country. He nurtured not only Persephone but countless actors and theatre professionals, making Persephone one of the “must work at” theatres for actors across Canada. As Tibor began his 25th year with Persephone one of his greatest dreams was becoming a reality.
