It was a year of continued growth for Canada’s premier Queer cultural institution, with most significant changes to operating revenues resulting from increases in box office. The company’s accumulated surplus sits at $189,203, as of June 30 2007.<BR> <BR>Buddies’ recent audit is noteworthy, as the 2007 financial statements show the company in a positive unrestricted position of $8,171 at the fiscal year-end (June 30, 2007) – <U>this is the first time that this has been achieved in the company’s history</U>. This fiscal goal was articulated through Buddies in Bad Times Theatre’s work as a participating member of <B>The</B> <B>Creative Trust</B>’s<B> </B>Working Capital for the Arts programme (www.creativetrust.ca <A href="http://www.creativetrust.ca/" target=_blank><http://www.creativetrust.ca/></A> ). Paul Halferty</B> was officially welcomed onto the Board of Buddies in Bad Times Theatre at the company’s Annual General Meeting on December 11, as was <B>Naomi Campbell</B>, who has graciously assumed the position of Board President. Campbell is a seasoned Producer and Artist, and replaces long-serving Director <B>J.R. Tennyson</B> (who is on temporary leave from the Board). Naomi Campbell has served as President of The Alexander Street Theatre Project (the facility-based arm of Buddies in Bad Times Theatre’s operations) since 2001.<BR> <BR><B><U>Oiye and LeFrancois are also pleased to announce plans addressing gender inequity in the company’s mainstage programming</U></B>. In fact, the statistics have made little to no improvement since 1982, when the last major study was facilitated. Looking specifically at the 2007-2008 mainstage seasons of Toronto’s facility-based non-profit theatres shows that women accounted for but 28% the directors and 22% of the playwrights employed that year.<BR> <BR>In planning for the next three-year cycle, the two have indicated that Buddies in Bad Times Theatre’s 2009-2010 mainstage programming (excluding festivals) will be comprised entirely of projects initiated by women creators, that are in keeping with Buddies’ Queer mandate and pro-sexual aesthetic.
