Our Fine Arts Bibliographer at York University, Mary Kandiuk, in
collaboration with me has, over the past couple of years compiled an
E/resource list for my Canadian Theatre class which can be access on
the York libraries eResource pages under the course number (THEA 4330).
<br>
<br>
It's a compendium of all sorts of research tools, primary aimed at
researching through journals, newspaper archives and websites.<br>

I am working on a list of seven to ten reference sources for librarians
in the area of Canadian Drama. This may include encyclopedias or
handbooks, either in print or electronic form. The list can include
companions or compendiums but not indexes and bibliographies.
<br>
<br>
I have some items that I plan to include in my list but I am interested
to know what the members of this list might also come up with. So if
you have a minute, send me any suggestions you have. If you wrote the
book, all the better!

Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi David,<br>
<br>
You probably have this one already but I'm a fan of the <i>Directory
of Canadian Theatre Archives</i> (1992), compiled by Heather McCallum
and Ruth Pincoe. (Dalhousie University, School of Library and
Information Studies Occasional Paper 53, Halifax, Nova Scotia). I'd
love to update it make it electronic. I bring this up to Ruth every so
often.<br>
<br>
Another old gem is the <i>Canadian National Theatre on the Air:
1925-1961, the CBC-CRBC-CNR radio drama in English</i>, a descriptive
bibliography and union list, compiled by Howard Fink. An invaluable
reference for early Canadian radio drama.<br>
<br>
I have
some others (most of which you have probably collected already) listed
in an old trial web page I made up years ago: "A Sampler of Resources
for English-Canadian Theatre & Theatre History." I haven't updated
it for a long time but you can check out some of the links in <a
moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://www.chass.utoronto.ca/%7Ekchung/theatre/cdnthtrsites.html">http://www.chass.utoronto.ca/~kchung/theatre/cdnthtrsites.html</a>
I always meant to update that website but what's out there is endless
and changing while my time and resources are not, so I wanted to
re-think about purpose, content, and scope first; and then other things
took my attention. Maybe I'll get back to it again one day. Comments
welcome. It's a long neglected but fond project of mine. :)<br>
<br>
All best, -- Kathy.<br>

I believe Playwrights Guild of Canada is about to release its new
Catalogue/membership directory. That document lists at least 1000 or
more titles
<br>
and their authors, and the titles are annotated with prices. It also
includes short bios of the authors with their head shots. A very
useful reference tool.
<br>
And take a look at the AQAD website and its list of Quebec plays.
