<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-CA">In celebration of the 50<sup>th</sup> Anniversary of the University of Lethbridge, the University’s Department of Theatre and Dramatic Arts is seeking commissioning proposals for a full-length play to be produced in October,
2017 as part of the department’s main season of plays. All playwrights are invited to submit proposals.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-CA" style="font-size: 6pt; "> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-CA">A jury will select three proposals from those submitted and each playwright will be offered a $2000 commissioning contract to write a full-length draft within 18 months. A second jury evaluates the three completed drafts
and selects the winning play. The winning playwright receives an additional $2000 prize plus travel expenses to attend workshop(s) of the play at the University of Lethbridge as well as royalties when the play is produced.</span><span lang="EN-CA" style="font-size: 12pt; "><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-CA" style="font-size: 6pt; "> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-CA">Playwrights must be Canadian citizens or hold permanent resident status.</span><span lang="EN-CA" style="font-size: 12pt; "><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-CA">Playwrights may only submit one commission proposal.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-CA">Plays must be full-length, with a minimum running time of 75 minutes and include<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-CA">at least 10 characters.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-CA">Plays must be original creations, not adaptations or translations.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-CA" style="font-size: 6pt; "> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-CA">All genres are eligible, including Theatre for Young Audiences and musical theatre.</span><span lang="EN-CA" style="font-size: 12pt; "><o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-CA">Proposals should describe preliminary ideas about narrative, characters, topic, and/or theme. Playwrights should also attach a CV/resume detailing playwriting and other relevant theatre experience and, if unproduced
at a professional theatre, a copy of a previously completed full length plays.</span><span lang="EN-CA" style="font-size: 12pt; "><o:p></o:p></span></p>
