<p>La Pocha Nostra: “The most original performance troupe with a Latin American aesthetic and a post-colonial ethos." -El Pais, Spain</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><b>October 26th – November 1st, 2014</b></p>
<p>Rebel Acts, an artistic residency with La Pocha Nostra, will be hosted by the Centre for Drama, Theatre and Per-formance Studies, University of Toronto. For the first time in over five years, Guillermo Gómez-Peña and La Pocha core troupe members will convene in Toronto for a series of performances, workshops, and dialogues. Based in San Francis-co, La Pocha Nostra provides a support network and forum for artists of various disciplines, generations, and ethnic backgrounds. La Pocha Nostra is a transdisciplinary, transnational arts collective working across national borders, race, gender, and generations as an act of radical citizen diplomacy and as a means to create temporary communities of rebel artists.</p>
<p>Gómez-Peña is a performance artist, writer, activist, radical pedagogue and director of the performance troupe La Pocha Nostra. His performance work and ten books have contributed to debates on cultural diversity, border culture and US-Mexico relations. As part of their residency at the Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies, Gómez-Peña and Pocha Nostra will have a series of exciting activities including Imaginary Activism, a solo performance by Gómez-Peña, and the Canadian premiere of the most recent Pocha epic performance, Corpo Insurrecto 3.2. The artists partici-pating in this residency are: Guillermo Gómez-Peña (USA/Mexico City), performance artist and founder of La Pocha Nostra, and core troupe members Dani d’Emilia (Portugal/Brazil), Brittany Chavez (Mexico/USA), and Saul García-López (Mexico/USA/CanadAztlán).</p>
