<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-CA">The Magnetic North Theatre Festival (MNTF) takes place in Ottawa this year, and students in this
<b><i>three-credit undergraduate course</i></b> will explore its past, present and future during one intense week focusing on theatre history, performance analysis and criticism. Students are expected to see all nine MNTF shows outside of class time (evenings
and weekend) and must show proof of purchase of a Festival Pass, which is available at a discounted rate of $200 ($175 before May 15th) for those registered in the course.

<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span lang="EN-CA" style="font-size:14.0pt">PROFESSOR<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span lang="EN-CA">Dr. Karen Fricker</span></b><span lang="EN-CA">
</span><span lang="EN-US">is assistant professor in the Department of Dramatic Arts at Brock University and an adjunct professor in the Department of Theatre at the University of Ottawa. Her research interests include contemporary theatre and globalization;
contemporary Québec theatre; popular performances of nation and cultural identities; Irish theatre; and theatre criticism. Her co-edited volume, with Milija Gluhovic,<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><i>Performing the 'New' Europe: Identities, Feelings,
and Politics in the Eurovision Song Contest</i>,<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>was published in 2013 by Palgrave Macmillan),<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>and she is completing a monograph,<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><i>Making
Theatre Global: Robert Lepage's Original Stage Productions</i><span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>for Manchester University Press. Karen is a professional theatre critic and the founding editor in chief of<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><i>Irish
Theatre Magazine.<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span></i>She has reviewed and broadcast for<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><i>The Guardian</i>,<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><i>Variety</i>,<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><i>The
Irish Times</i>,<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><i>The New York Times</i>, BBC, RTÉ, and the CBC, amongst other outlets. From 2007-2012 she was a lecturer in Drama and Theatre at Royal Holloway, University of London and in autumn 2012 was the Eakin Visiting Scholar at the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada in Montréal, where she received the Charles Bronfman and Rita Mayo
