<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="font-size:12.0pt; line-height:115%; font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Based on his ongoing research on how the Greek moiroloi (lamentations) can be used as a template to look at contemporary art
practices that deal with mourning and grief, <b>Guy Cools (the Belgian dance-dramaturg, the author of the book
<i>In-Between Dance Cultures: on the migratory artistic identity of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Akram Khan</i>)</b> will offer a lecture and a workshop in creative writing in the oral tradition of these lamentations used, even today, to mourn the death, to say
goodbye to the bride leaving her family, or to dialogue with those who are in exile. The moiroloi are by nature theatrical and dramatic in the way the singer addresses the absent person and temporarily lends him her voice to answer back: a widow talks to her
husband, a mother to her married daughter, a corpse to its own ‘tired body’. </span>
</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="font-size:12.0pt; line-height:115%; font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">This lecture and workshop, offered exclusively to the Université of Ottawa students and members of Ottawa theatre and dance
community, will explore the antiphonic structure of the Greek laments to dialogue with those who are absent in our own lives.</span></p>

<p class="xp1" align="center" style="text-align:center"><span lang="FR-CA">En s’appuyant sur une recherche en cours portant sur l’utilisation des moiroloi grec (lamentations) comme outil d’analyse des pratiques artistiques contemporaines ayant pour sujet le
deuil, Guy Cools (danseur-<i>dramaturg </i>belge et auteur du livre <b><i>In-Between Dance Cultures: on the migratory artistic identity of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Akram Khan</i></b>) présentera une conférence et un atelier d'écriture sur la lamentation,
laquelle est enracinée dans la tradition orale de la Grèce et utilisée, encore aujourd'hui, pour déplorer la mort de quelqu'un, pour dire au revoir à une mariée quittant sa famille ou pour dialoguer avec ceux qui sont en exil..</span></p>
<p class="xp1" align="center" style="text-align:center"><span lang="FR-CA">Les moiroloi sont théâtrales et dramatiques par la manière dont la chanteuse s'adresse à l'absent et lui prête temporairement sa voix: une veuve parle à son mari, une mère à sa fille
mariée, un cadavre à son propre "corps fatigué" .</span></p>
