<i>Somatics</i> is a tree which has grown many branches since Thomas Hanna (1980/1993; 1988/2004) introduced it. Today, thanks to the contribution from multi-disciplinary scholars and educators (Sondra Fraleigh 2009, 2014, 2018; Bonnie Cohen Bainbridge 1994/2012;
Glenna Batson 2014; Martha Eddy 2016; Amanda Williamson 2014; Kimerer LaMothe 2012, 2015), the influence of Indigenous, Eastern and Western systems of knowledge, feminist studies, community engagement, and eco-performance, somatics<i>
</i>is pollinating. We understand somatics to go beyond the study of the human embodiment, and into the lesser traveled "five pathways undertaken by somatic practitioners: social, ecological, spiritual, health and well-being and education" (Fortin 2017).<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span lang="EN" style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Somatic Engagement</span></b><span lang="EN" style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"> is a seminar intended for those interested in investigating somatics as a field of
pedagogy / practice / performance as research. The Somatic Engagement seminar aims to generate a forum of discussion addressing somatics beyond body-centric practices of wellness, and towards imagining somatics in a plural engagement of transdisciplinary academic
and professional fields, furthermore, encompassing an ecology of human, non-human, spiritual, and elemental worlds.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Suggested inquiries might address but are not limited to: the pedagogy of somatic movement, teaching somatics at university, somatic research methodologies and the kinds of data
collected, somatic and whiteness, somatic historiography, somatic for social justice and community engagement, somatics and imagination, somatics and neuroscience. The proposal should take into consideration somatic studies / practices / performances / research
within the academe, and/or within the professional sectors of the arts, in Canada, and/or outside of Canada.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

no later than April 22, 2019. Small groups will be formed for feedback by way of rhizome-connection in accordance to their field(s) of inquiry. Participants have one full month to engage with each other through critical responses until our meeting at the conference.

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="FR" style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Quel rôle est-ce que la pratique et l’étude de la somatique jouera-t-il au Canada, en ce 21ième siècle ?
<i>La somatique,</i> la pratique et l’étude, est un arbre à plusieurs branches, et qui ne cesse de croître, et ce, depuis le travail précurseur de Thomas Hanna (1980/1993). Aujourd’hui, grace aux multiples contributions par l’entremise de divers milieux de
recherche et de pratique (Sondra Fraleigh 2009, 2014, 2018; Bonnie Cohen Bainbridge 1994/2012; Glenna Batson 2014; Martha Eddy 2016; Amanda Williamson 2014; Kimerer LaMothe 2012, 2015), l’influence de savoir autochtone, oriental et occidental, des études féministes,
de l'activisme communautaire, et de l’éco-performance, la somatique s’épanouit. Nous nous entendons à dire que la somatique va outre l’étude de la corporéité (<i>embodiement)
</i>humaine, et jusqu’à ce que ces autres sphères moins connues, « ces cinq parcours de la pratique somatique: sociale, écologique, spirituelle, santé et bien-être, et l’éducation » (traduction libre, Fortin 2017).<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span lang="FR" style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">L’engagement somatique</span></b><span lang="FR" style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"> se veut un séminaire à l’intention de celles et ceux intéressés par la somatique
tel que vécue et pensée dans les secteurs de la pédagogie de son enseignement et en enseignement, sa pratique, et ainsi que de la performance en tant que recherche. Ce séminaire espère créer un espace de discussion pour partager intuitions, curiosités, et
recherches qui décentralisent la somatique du bien-être personnel pour l’élargir vers la somatique de la pluralité transdisciplinaire, visant les secteurs académiques et arts professionnels. De plus, nous espérons élargir la discussion de la somatique dans
le cercle de l'écologie humaine, non-humaine, spirituel, et élémentaire.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="FR" style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Nous portons un intérêt élargie pour les propositions portant sur la pédagogie de l’enseignement de la somatique / dans l’enseignement par la somatique, la question épineuse de
l’enseignement et de la reconnaissance de la somatique à l’université, les méthodologies somatiques de recherche ainsi que le type de data qu’elle génère, la question de la prédominance blanche (<i>white)
</i>et de la représentation biaisée, la somatique comme historiographie, la somatique comme engin de justice social et de l’engagement communautaire, la somatique et l’imagination, la somatique et la neuroscience. Les propositions devraient prendre en considération
la somatique en tant qu’études / pratique / performance / recherche à l’intérieur des secteurs professionnels des arts au Canada, et/ou à l'extérieur du Canada.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="FR" style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Nous invitons les participants à soumettre leur proposition au plus tard le 31 janvier, et les propositions retenues seront signalés le 7 février au plus tard. Ensuite, les participants
seront invités à nous remettre un article (1200-1500 mots), au plus tard, le 22 avril, 2019. À ce moment, nous initierons une chaîne à réponse, selon l’intérêt commun de chaque participant. À partir de là, les participants auront un mois complet pour partager
leurs réponses critiques. Puis, nous nous réunirons pendant le séminaire pour approfondir la discussion, et faire la synthèse de nos contributions. Nous rappelons que ce séminaire est ouvert aux universitaires et aux artistes.
